Raymond J. Harty

Raymond James Harty, 93, of Coral Springs, FL and formerly of Hicksville, NY passed away on June 9, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 22, 1924 to Thomas and Frances Harty, he left school at a young age to provide for his family after his father's untimely death. He joined the United States Marine Corps in December of 1942 and proudly fought during WWII in the pacific theater. Upon his discharge from the military in November of 1945, Ray began a lifelong career with the New York Times for 51 years. He resided in Freeport and Hicksville, NY before settling in South Florida to be near his son and grandchildren. Ray was an incredibly humble and generous man. From a meager childhood, he worked hard to provide for his family and loved to spoil his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and in his spare time loved to play golf, spend time with family, read and watch the news. Ray was also a man of faith. He attended church daily in Hicksville until his mobility declined. Ray is survived by his son, Robert (Katie) Harty; step-daughter, Andrea Marchena; granddaughters, Payton, Rielyn, and Hayden Harty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Harty, grandson, Christian Hope, and his three siblings.
