Obituary of Margaret Barr

Margaret (St. Jacques) Barr, 85, of Freeport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2020. Affectionately known as Peggy, she was born February 13, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Philip H. and Margaret F. (McCarthy) St. Jacques. She married James E. Barr on May 26, 1956, recently celebrating 64 years of marriage. Peggy was an incredible cook, avid reader, and loved arts and crafts. She always enjoyed having a good conversation over a cup of coffee with a piece of chocolate cake. She was most at home "at the beach" surrounded by family, as well as on trips with her husband, children, and siblings. Peggy lived a full, beautiful life, and was adored by all who met her; she was known for her kindness and concern for others. She was full of faith and grace and was a lifetime parishioner of Our Holy Redeemer Church in Freeport, NY. Peggy is survived and already greatly missed by her very large and equally loving family: husband Jim; daughter Maureen T. Murphy (Michael) Sterling, MA; son James J. Barr (Frances) Franklin, TN; son Richard T. Barr, Minneapolis, MN; son John E. Barr (Susan) Pfafftown, NC; daughter Maryanne Barr, Freeport, NY; daughter Dr. Eileen M. Barr McCarthy (Gerard) Port Jefferson, NY; daughter Margaret M. Barr, East Rockaway, NY; son Joseph F. Barr (Adrienne) Sykesville, MD; sisters Anne M. St. Jacques and Cathleen E. Rooney; brother Philip M. St. Jacques (JoAnn); eleven grandchildren: Katherine, Emily, Michael, James, Joseph, Kalle, Connor, Andrew, Margaret Rose, Olivia and Nathaniel; many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, especially lifelong friend Joan Moldovan. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Daniel R. St. Jacques, sister-in-law Frances, and daughter-in-law Joanne M. Barr. Due to the current pandemic, Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.
