Obituary of Hon. Ralph P. Franco

Honorable Ralph P. Franco, of Freeport, N.Y. died on October 14, 2020 at the age of 93. Ret. Supreme Court Justice, State of New York, Nassau County. Beloved husband of Lorraine. Loving father of Ralph Jr. (Lisa), and Lauren (Richard) Ippoliti. Cherished grandfather of Ralph Franco III, Caroline Franco, and Faith and Richie Ippoliti. Dear brother of Michael (Georgie) Franco. Family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, from 5pm to 9pm at Hungerford & Clark Inc. Funeral Home. Funeral Saturday 10am. Interment St. Charles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions to Parkinson's Foundation (parkinson.org) would be appreciated. Hon Ralph P. Franco Justice Ralph P. Franco has served as a Nassau County District Court Judge for the preceding six years. Prior thereto and for eleven years, Justice Franco presided over the Freeport Village Court, the largest Village Court in the State of New York. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Justice Franco graduated from Brooklyn College and Brooklyn Law School. He began his legal career as a private practitioner. Always ready and willing to serve the public interest. Justice Franco subsequently held the positions of Deputy Village Attorney and Special Prosecutor for the Village of Freeport, Deputy County Attorney for Nassau County and Law Secretary in the Supreme Court; He also served as an elected Trustee and Deputy Mayor for the Village of Freeport. Justice Franco was a Past President of the Nassau County Magistrate's Association and a member of the New York State Magistrate's Association, the American Justinian Society of Jurists and the Nassau Suffolk District Judge's Association. He was also a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, Catholic Lawyers Guild, Nassau Lawyers Association, and the Colombian Lawyers Association of Nassau County. Justice Franco was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and an Incorporator and Charter Member of the Enrico Fermi Lodge, Order of Sons of Italy, where he also served as Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Committee, He was also a Past President of the Freeport Rotary Club and and Honorary Member of the Freeport Fire Department. During this unprecedented time, and in compliance with guidelines stipulated by the Centers for Disease Control and the NYS Department of Health, we are forced to limit attendance at visitations, memorials, and funeral services to 50 people or less. Our staff may ask mourners to wait outside the chapel, outside the funeral home, or to keep their visit brief so as to allow others an opportunity to mourn. While in the funeral home, we are requesting all visitors to wear a mask and to limit physical contact such has hugging, handshaking, or contact with the face.
